Event-based systems differ themselves from other Big Data processing challenges by treating data streams as ephemeral entities while queries are long-lived notifications. This paradigm is useful for enabling large scale asynchronous applications in a variety of domains. This talk provides an overview of various event processing-related techniques, application scenarios, and system architectures. Various event processing systems are then put to the test as they compete in the scenario of soccer match monitoring.
